Master in Design for responsible AI

I’m currently (2023 - ongoing) a master’s student @Elisava - Barcelona School of Design and Engineering

Creative Research Collaboratory

Every aspect of an AI (or any other) system is a design decision.
System architecture and its goals are always determined by humans.
As Kate Crawford says, Artificial Intelligence is "not artificial, nor intelligent" ("Atlas of AI", Kate Crawford, 2021).

So what is it? And how we can shape it for the better?

Taking that into consideration, the Master in Responsible AI is about sculpting a future where technology is in sync with human and ecological well-being, prioritizing a comprehensive, responsible approach to the evolution of AI.

This faculty is designed as a creative research collaboratory with
a strong focus on collaborative and transdisciplinary learning.

A QUESTION WE WANT TO ADDRESS

How can we design critical thinking tools to anticipate, understand and address the complex impacts of AI systems in society and the environment?

New skillset and approach

During my master’s studies in Design for Responsible AI,
I’ve been acquiring skills in

  • creative research,

  • socio-technical systems’ analysis and investigation,

  • critical thinking and storytelling,

  • speculative design

In our lectures, we decode artificial intelligence systems, discuss the impact of AI on society and the planet, and delve into Responsible AI/Governance, exploring its principles and requirements.
